1. Dadgummit Vince. Why do you have to go and get suspended for the first game? First, speaking on behalf of all Titan fans, we’re tired of high profile Titan players not being on the field because they break rules. Secondly, and this is more annoying for me as a fan, we still have no greater idea now than we did last week as to how effective the offense will be. The running game couldn’t get anything going (until the 3rd stringers got in – more on that in a minute) and I’d like to think that is because the defense could key on the backs because there was no threat of a pass being completed or the QB taking off. We won’t have any idea whether or not that is the case until we get Vince on the field.
2. Speaking of the lack of a passing threat tonight, how bad does Kerry Collins suck? He’s been in the league something like 17 years now and he still throws the ball in the dirt when the pocket collapses. I realize this is old hash but why in the world is he on our roster? If Vince goes down I’d rather see us running the single wing offense with just running backs than have Collins in there throwing the ball at the receivers feet. At least Tim Rattay has some upside…wait…no he doesn’t. Time to scrap the QB depth chart and start again. Tonight makes me think we should have worked harder to get Tim Couch signed before the Jags did. How sad is that?
3. I know it’s preseason but the Titans were sure able to get to the QB tonight. That makes my heart smile. I picture a lot of punts and field goals coming after our offensive drives this year so the thought that the defense can put the QB on his tail regularly helps me convince myself this season won’t be a complete disaster. I can’t chalk up all the sacks and hurries to this being a preaseason game, can I? I mean surely the line is trying to protect Jason Campbell like they would in a regular season game, right?
4. Hey, hey, hey Chris Henry. The Titans third string running back (and most expensive special teams player) looked pretty good working with (and against) the third string. So here’s what I’m wondering: am I stupid for griping that the Titans reached (and that’s saying it kindly) for him in the 2nd round, stupid for thinking that he looked like a viable option, or stupid for believing the Titans will find an effective running game amongst the three candidates? Either way, I’m stupid.
